House Bill No. 232 is aiming to allow minors convicted of specific alcohol related offenses to perform community service acts as opposed to attending alcohol awareness programs. If the offender resides in a county where there is a population of 75,000 or less and does not have access to an alcohol awareness program, the court may assign an online program. Under this amendment to the state alcoholic beverage code, the court may also decide to assign the offender community services hours. This service must not be less than eight hours, and must be related to alcohol abuse treatment and/or prevention. The bill passed in the Senate on May 22nd of 2013, and will be enacted on September 1st of 2013 or immediately with the required votes.
