Texas Best Lobbying Rules and Regulations
How does the state of Texas define a lobbyist?
Gov’t Code §§ 305.001, 305.003(a) defines lobbying as direct communication with legislators of either branch of state government. This includes any kind of direct communication: email, phone, fax, letters, etc.
Political Lobbyists are Needed in a Democracy
One of the central and defining aspects of democratic government is giving the people a voice. All citizens in a free country should be able to communicate with their duly elected officials. And citizens may also send a representative on their behalf or on the behalf of their business or organization to communicate what is important to them to their legislators. Lobbying is nothing more than making your viewpoint known.
Some people speak poorly of lobbying, and certainly it can be abused. But lobbying itself can never be made illegal as long as we follow the constitution of the United States for our policies. In truth, lobbying and lobbyists are inevitable in our system of government.
The Best Lobbying Firms in Texas Follow the Rules
Texas has a carefully outlined set of rules and regulations for lobbyists. And the best lobbying firms in Texas follow them to the letter of the law. All citizens may lobby themselves, but when a person is paid to represent another in communication with a legislator, that person becomes a professional lobbyist. In Texas, anyone earning more than $1000 in a quarter must register with the state of Texas. Once registered, the lobbyist’s activities, clients, and fees become a matter of public record.
We at the Texas Lobby Group fully support the oversight of lobbyists in Texas. We agree that all professional lobbyists should register and carefully follow all guidelines as outlined by the Texas Ethics Commission.
We serve our clients to the best of our ability while following all the rules and laws for our profession.
Registration Fees for Texas Lobbying Firms
It only costs $75 for a lobbyist to register in our state. This registration expires at the end of the year, no matter when the lobbyist registered. Registered lobbyists must then submit a monthly report of their activities to the state. Under certain circumstances, a lobbyist may report his or her activities once a year.
