Behind all major and minor policy decisions that the Texas Legislators make, there is a budget to adhere to and distribute. With a limited amount of money and virtually infinite deserving causes needing funding, where our money goes is of great concern to our citizens and politicians. The 83rd Legislative Session has just begun, and the state budget for 2014-2015 is currently on the table to be trimmed and doled out.
“The current budget, passed by the Texas Legislature in 2011, includes $70.4 billion in non dedicated spending within the entire $173.5 billion budget for 2012–13, passed last session with a record $15 billion in cuts.” The left and right of the political spectrum must find a way to compromise, as they always do, and make these important decisions. Fortunately, Republicans, Democrats, Moderates, and everyone in between are there to balance each other out, and to provide for a balance in the state’s budget and policy.
