Texas Best Lobbying Firm
Mike Hailey is reporting at Capitol Inside that Texas Democrats might be pulling for Mit Romney this Fall. Democrats at a national level are hoping for Santorum or Gingritch, hoping that an extreme Republican will drive the moderate vote to Obama. But Texas Democrats have a different agenda. They feel that Romney will not inspire Texas Republicans to get out and vote.
Look, it’s a well-known fact that voters often show up because they are inspired by a presidential candidate, and then pull the lever for a straight ticket. (At least back when levers were in use in elections) But if local Republicans are not fans of Romney – and they are not – then they might not even show up. This is what Texas Dems are hoping for in the important Fall state elections.
And the fact that Obama doesnt’ stand a chance of carrying Texas is even more reason not come to the polls, right?
Texas Republicans tend to be very conservative, relative to the nation. And Romney just doesn’t inspire them. Unlike McCain, he doesnt’ have a great war story to help his moderate policies go down easier. Republicans in Texas just might stay home. The Democrats are hoping so.
