There are many things that come to mind when you think of San Antonio, Texas. San Antonio is the seventh largest city in America. It’s Hispanic heritage and cultural influence provide a rich and colorful atmosphere that it has become famous for. People often think of The Alamo, the Missions, and The Riverwalk. These are all iconic San Antonio tourist venues. Fodor’s Travel Intelligence has compiled an excellent informative article on some of the best and more recent hotspots the city has to offer. They provide travel information that is up to date, but still includes classic stops and authentic San Antonio culture.
“Skip the restaurants and retail shops on the south side of the River Walk near Commerce Street—not only are they often gimmicky and overpriced, they also lack an authentic flavor of San Antonio. Instead head to the north side of the river to East Grayson Street where you’ll find the newly revitalized Pearl Brewery, now known as The Pearl. Originally established in the 1880s, the Pearl Brewing Company was a Texas original with storied history lasting more than a century. After shutting its doors in the late 1990s, it has since been redeveloped as a vibrant mixed-use center for restaurants, shops, and live-music amphitheater using the original architecture of the old brewing company as the focal point of the 23-acre property.”
“The Pearl” shopping center has actually only been around for a little over a year. Already it has become a focal point of attractions and excellent dining. The Pearl also has an extensive farmer’s market, and is still being added on to and developed. It is located in central San Antonio, right on the way to the heart of downtown. Also mentioned is “The San Antonio Museum of Art” which is right next door to The Pearl. SAMA is a remarkable art museum, which houses a great variety of artifacts, paintings, and sculptures from around the globe. Another recent addition to the many fantastic sights and venues that San Antonio has to offer is the “Esquire Tavern” which opened just last year. San Antonio has a lot to offer, new and old.
